The Kiss Statue by Rodin Bronze Replica Small Figurine

Rodin's sculpture "The Kiss" was inspired by the tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca, real-life figures from 13th-century Italy, a story immortalized in Dante's 《Inferno》.

The Kiss Statue by Rodin Bronze Replica Small Figurine Romantic Couple Man and Woman Eternal Lovers Sculpture Famous Antique Art
This work was originally designed for the large group sculpture "The Gates of Hell," but because its depiction of happiness and joy was inconsistent with the theme of hell, it was ultimately exhibited as an independent sculpture in 1887 and achieved great success.
Origin: Francesca, for political reasons, was forced to marry the ugly nobleman Giovanni. However, she fell in love with her husband's younger brother, the young and handsome Paolo.
The Moment of Love: One day, the two were reading the chivalric romance of Lancelot and Guinevere together. When they reached the part where the protagonists kissed, they spontaneously shared their first kiss.
Tragic Ending: At that very moment, Francesca's husband Giovanni suddenly appeared and killed them both on the spot.
Artistic Elevation: Rodin chose not to depict the tragic ending of the story, but instead captured the moment of the lovers' passionate embrace. In the sculpture, the woman's body is pressed tightly against the man's, appearing intoxicated and fervent; while the man gently caresses his lover with one hand and rests the other on a rock, his body slightly straightened, seemingly revealing a hint of tension and restraint regarding this forbidden love, subtly hinting at the unease behind the story.
